HGHI Faculty Director Ashish K. Jha named Dean of Brown University School of Public Health

Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH, faculty director of the Harvard Global Health Institute and the K.T. Li Professor of Global Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has been appointed to serve as the next dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, effective September 1, 2020.

Jha became director of the Harvard Global Health Institute in 2014. Under his leadership, HGHI has grown in size and impact both at Harvard and globally. Bringing together faculty, researchers and students from across Harvard, Jha has led major university-wide initiatives on pressing public health issues including pandemic preparedness and global health security, the reshaping of healthcare through artificial intelligence, and the impact of climate change on patient populations and health systems today.

Jha’s work at HGHI has helped position Harvard as a leader in these and other critical areas in global health, whether through novel multi-disciplinary research, policy briefs, or creating unique partnerships across fields and industries.

An accomplished scholar and global health advocate, Jha is also a dedicated educator – he has taught the principles of health care quality to Harvard undergraduates and to a world-wide audience through online courses. He has served as a mentor to a large cadre of physicians and junior faculty, helping many to build successful academic careers.

Currently on sabbatical to examine and compare healthcare systems internationally via the Choices in Health project, Jha will serve as an integral member of HGHI’s leadership team through August 2020.
