Organization Description

Socios En Salud (SES) is Peru’s largest international NGO, driven by a commitment to healthcare access for vulnerable populations. Since its founding during the 1994 tuberculosis outbreak, SES has developed a robust model for treating complex diseases such as MDR-TB and HIV while achieving globally recognized outcomes. SES operates health programs, research initiatives, and community-based interventions that serve urban and peri-urban populations, with a focus on equity and social justice.

Internship Project Description

The VENSALUD Project is a healthcare platform designed to address the physical and mental health needs of Venezuelan refugee and migrant populations in Lima and Callao. Interns will assist with project impact evaluation activities to ensure humanitarian assistance is delivered in a safe, accessible, and participatory manner.

Key Activities:

  • Conduct interviews with beneficiaries, community stakeholders, and healthcare providers to evaluate project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with SES professionals to assess the quality, safety, and accessibility of services provided.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify areas for program improvement.
  • Develop reports and recommendations for enhancing the project’s impact and outreach.

Deliverables:

  • A comprehensive evaluation report outlining key findings and areas for improvement.
  • Qualitative interview data and analysis results.
  • Recommendations for enhancing accessibility and community participation in program activities.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Community Engagement and Intercultural Communication Skills: Develop the ability to engage effectively with refugee and migrant populations in culturally diverse settings.
  2. Applied Research and Qualitative Data Collection: Gain experience in program evaluation, including qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  3. Health Equity and Social Justice Frameworks: Understand the challenges faced by displaced populations and develop strategies to promote health equity.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Background: Students in global health, social sciences, anthropology, migration studies, public health, or related fields.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with qualitative research methods and data analysis.
    • Interest in health equity, refugee health, and community engagement.
  • Other Considerations:
    • Intermediate-level Spanish required.
    • Ability to work in resource-limited and multicultural environments.

Work Environment

Interns will work directly with SES project professionals and community stakeholders in Lima and Callao. Fieldwork will involve beneficiary interviews, program observations, and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
