Dignity for Daughters is a designated non-profit organization that provides Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education and reusable menstrual health kits to students attending secondary schools in the Iringa, Tanzania area. The internship provides an opportunity to contribute to a grassroots public health initiative focused on menstrual equity and SRH education, supporting program implementation, capacity-building, and community engagement efforts.
Position Overview
The DfD Summer Internship allows students to gain hands-on experience in global health, education, and non-profit operations. Interns will collaborate with the Program Coordinator at the Diocese office and in the field at secondary schools and villages within a three-hour radius, supporting organizational capacity, programmatic work, and outreach.
Project Details
Intern projects include:
• Interpreting survey results to inform programming and integrate findings into grant applications and fundraising materials
• Writing detailed role descriptions and procedure manuals for Tanzanian staff
• Collecting and curating photos, interviews, and stories from field visits to enhance marketing and donor engagement
Additional responsibilities:
• Attend monthly committee meetings before and during the internship
• Complete SRH educational certification training (~2 hours)
• Research and apply for grant opportunities
• Draft an employee procedure and operations report
• Design and produce promotional and educational materials
• Enhance DfD’s social media and online presence
• Write an end-of-summer report summarizing experiences, outcomes, and recommendations
Intern Responsibilities
Interns will:
• Collaborate closely with the Program Coordinator in-office and in the field
• Conduct data interpretation, documentation, and communications tasks
• Support program implementation and community engagement
• Participate in field-based SRH education activities
• Contribute to grant writing, marketing, and organizational capacity-building
Qualifications
Essential:
• Current undergraduate studying education, global health, or a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and adapt to a resource-limited environment
Preferred:
• Experience in social media, content creation, web design, or fundraising
• Background in grant writing or marketing
• Ability to interpret and present qualitative survey data
• Cross-cultural experience or familiarity with fieldwork in low-resource settings
• Open-minded, self-motivated, and collaborative

Work Environment
Hybrid:
• Pre-Departure (3 weeks): Virtual work summarizing survey data, identifying grant opportunities, and preparing materials
• In-Person (6 weeks): Field visits, SRH presentations, and direct collaboration with local staff and Program Coordinator
• Wrap-Up (1 week): Complete remaining tasks and produce a final report
