The Biomedical Research Institute at the National Institute of Cardiology conducts research on mitochondrial DNA and microRNAs as biomarkers of exposure to environmental toxins and cardiovascular disease, with a particular emphasis on pregnancy and childhood as key periods of vulnerability.
Position Overview
The intern will support multiple ongoing research projects examining environmental exposures, molecular biomarkers, and cardiovascular risk. The role involves contributing to laboratory and epidemiological studies.
Project Details
Projects may include:
Investigating mitochondrial DNA and microRNA biomarkers
Studying exposure to environmental toxins across sensitive life stages
Supporting in vitro, in vivo, and epidemiological research workflows
Intern Responsibilities
Assist with laboratory experiments (in vitro and in vivo)
Support epidemiological data collection or analysis
Participate in project meetings and literature reviews
Help with data management and documentation
Qualifications
Intermediate–high Spanish proficiency required
Strong interest in molecular biology, environmental health, or cardiovascular research
Prior lab or data experience preferred

Strengthened lab, analytical, and data interpretation skills
