Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit research organization committed to improving health across the lifespan by empowering existing community resources to provide appropriate physical, psychological, and social therapies. The organization develops and tests contextually appropriate task-sharing interventions that empower low-cost human resources with knowledge and supervision to improve access to mental healthcare.

Position Overview

This internship provides an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in research aimed at making a measurable impact on mental health and community wellbeing in low-resource settings. Interns will learn how real-world complexities influence the design and systematic implementation of evidence-based health research.

Project Details

Interns may work on projects in the following thematic areas: addiction, adolescent and youth mental health, adult mental health, health equity, and technology innovations. Specific projects will be selected based on the intern’s interests and supervisor guidance. Potential activities include:

  • Conducting literature reviews

  • Drafting research documents (e.g., consent forms, interview guides)

  • Research and intervention development

  • Data entry, data analysis, and writing up research findings

  • Grant writing

  • Supporting public engagement and dissemination activities

Intern Responsibilities

Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, assisting in research and intervention development, performing data analysis, drafting research documents, supporting grant writing, and contributing to public engagement and dissemination activities. Interns will receive mentorship and guidance from direct supervisors and project-specific leads.

Qualifications

  • Previous training in research methods or experience in research, clinical, or public engagement activities preferred but not required

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a new cultural setting

International interns who are externally funded are charged a $500 USD internship administration fee at the start of their internship period.

Onboarding and Logistics

The internship is fully in-person. Interns will be placed within project teams in Goa, Bhopal, or Delhi depending on the project assignment. Sangath provides a safe working environment with opportunities to interact with staff and other interns in-person or virtually, depending on the situation.
