Socios En Salud (SES) is a leading global health organization in Peru and an affiliate of Partners In Health. For over 25 years, SES has worked to reduce health inequities by providing high-quality care to underserved communities and strengthening public health systems. Programs cover mental health, maternal and child health, infectious diseases (including TB and HIV), non-communicable diseases, cancer, and social protection. SES integrates community-based care, research, and collaboration with the Ministry of Health to create scalable, sustainable improvements in Peru’s health system.

Position Overview

This internship offers hands-on experience in two public health initiatives:

  1. REFUGIA SALUD Project – Community engagement to improve health services for refugees and forcibly displaced populations in Lima, Tacna, and Tumbes. Interns will support evaluation and improvement of engagement strategies, stakeholder mapping, outreach, and applied research.

  2. PENSA MV Project – Strengthening the “Pensalud” mental health strategy for pregnant and postpartum women in North Lima, focusing on maternal depression. Interns will support data systematization, fieldwork, and engagement with Community Health Workers.

Project Responsibilities

REFUGIA SALUD Project:

  • Review and improve community engagement plans

  • Expand and update stakeholder mapping

  • Assist with dissemination of health service information (flyers, social media, outreach events)

  • Monitor participation and track outreach data

  • Support evaluation of service delivery modalities (Protection Spaces, shelters, mobile outreach)

  • Assist with data collection, organization, and basic analysis

  • Participate in coordination and planning meetings with local teams and humanitarian actors

PENSA MV Project:

  • Systematize information and best practices, including updating databases and drafting summaries

  • Participate in meetings and field visits with SES teams and Community Health Workers

Qualifications

REFUGIA SALUD Project:

  • Current student in social sciences, public health, or related fields

  • Basic knowledge of qualitative research methods (interviews, focus groups, observation)

  • Intermediate/advanced Spanish (spoken and written)

  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and team collaboration

  • Cultural adaptability, openness to change, and commitment to humanitarian principles

PENSA MV Project:

  • Student in social sciences or public health

  • Basic understanding of quantitative research methods

  • Intermediate/advanced Spanish

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team

Preferred:

  • Experience with refugee/migrant populations, community work, or health-related initiatives

  • Knowledge of project management tools and basic data analysis

Work Environment

Hybrid – interns complete some tasks remotely (data analysis, report writing, preparation) and participate in field visits and in-person engagement 1–2 days per week. Fieldwork includes interaction with SES staff, Community Health Workers, and community members, while the remaining days involve office-based or remote research support.
