University of Global Health Equity

Organization
The Center for Gender Equity at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), launched in 2020, aims to integrate gender across clinical service delivery, academic practices, research, education, and strategic program implementation. The Center promotes gender-responsive standards of practice to achieve global health objectives through education, training, research, and community engagement. Its research priorities focus on gender equity in health systems, impacts of gender norms, gender-based violence prevention, social determinants of health, and gender-responsive policy and methodological improvements. The Center collaborates with UGHE’s academic community and external partners to advance excellence in gender equity.
Position Overview
This internship offers students the opportunity to engage with UGHE’s Center for Gender Equity on research projects and grant writing activities. Interns will gain hands-on experience in gender-focused research, including project design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Project Details
Interns may participate in research projects such as:
Review of gender integration in global health programs
Comprehensive Gender Assessment for Inclusive Development in Butaro Community
Research on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and service access for adolescent women with disabilities
Research on how gender norms shape sexual decision-making among adolescents in rural communities
Exploration of how myths, peer influence, and cultural norms shape adolescents’ understanding of consent and gender-based violence
Interns will be involved in different research phases, including desk reviews for proposals and grants, collaborating on IRB applications, developing study tools, data collection, data analysis (qualitative or quantitative), and manuscript production.
Intern Responsibilities
Assist in desk reviews for proposals and grant writing
Collaborate on IRB applications
Develop study tools for qualitative or quantitative research
Conduct data collection and support data analysis
Contribute to manuscript production and report writing
Participate in orientation and gain access to UGHE materials via a UGHE email
Complete CITI training if accessible through HGHI
Collaborate in a hybrid, remote, or in-person format depending on project needs
Qualifications
Interest in qualitative or quantitative research on gender and sexual and reproductive health
Willingness to learn and use data analysis tools such as Dedoose and RedCap
Ability to support high-quality report and manuscript writing
Learning Outcomes
