Internship Details

  • Intern Positions Available: 1–2
  • Format: Hybrid: The position will be a mix of virtual and in-person work.
  • Work Environment Details:
    The intern will work closely with the Better Evidence team and be part of team meetings and learning opportunities. The intern will have the opportunity to join some of the Global Health Delivery Intensive course sessions, which are being offered virtually in July 2025.

    • If local, the intern can work in the Boston office on a hybrid basis, interacting with other interns and Division of Global Health Equity staff, including Harvard and Brigham faculty and clinicians.
    • The Better Evidence team currently works in the office every Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Duration: June-August
  • Additional Requirements: Interns may need to complete a hiring/onboarding process with the Operations team to set up HR systems, email, and other accounts.

Organization Description

The Better Evidence program at the Division of Global Health Equity aims to support the current and future health workforce in integrating the latest evidence into decision-making to improve health outcomes. The program leverages expertise in research, capacity building, and program implementation to respond to health workers’ needs globally. By providing access to essential resources and tools, Better Evidence enables informed decision-making, ultimately advancing health equity and improving health for all.

Internship Project Description

Internship projects will vary depending on the intern’s experience, expertise, and interests, but may include the following:

Research and Data Analysis

  • Conducting background research and literature reviews for Better Evidence research projects.
  • Managing, cleaning, evaluating, and analyzing data.
  • Translating findings into written pieces for publication or programmatic recommendations.
  • Researching healthcare facilities and providers to assess fit with the Better Evidence for Clinical Care program.
  • Maintaining data collection systems, such as the Better Evidence application portal.

Programmatic Support

  • Supporting Better Evidence Champions (local faculty and staff at African medical schools) to promote and increase the uptake of digital tools.

Communications

  • Assisting with direct-to-beneficiary communication campaigns.

Other Project Work

  • Creating content and marketing materials for the Global Health Delivery Intensive at Harvard School of Public Health, such as interviews with alumni or graduation videos.
  • Researching options for expanding internet access in African countries.
  • Analyzing data reports from LearnUpon (an online learning platform) to identify barriers and recommend improvements.
  • Creating narrative content (testimonies, quotes, photos) to tell the story of Better Evidence’s impact.
  • Assisting with training and promotional campaigns, such as newsletters and social media posts.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop project management skills, including planning, drafting, and incorporating feedback.
  2. Gain experience working in a non-profit environment, including building professional relationships and understanding office norms.
  3. Learn about stakeholders within the global health system and how they collaborate to achieve health equity.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-discipline.
  • Ability to learn quickly, identify roadblocks, and escalate issues effectively.
  • Positive, flexible, and professional attitude with cultural humility.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Google Drive and Slack.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (SPSS, SAS, or other statistical packages).
  • Passion for serving frontline healthcare providers in global settings.

Work Environment

This hybrid role provides an opportunity to work with the Better Evidence team both virtually and in person. Local interns can benefit from office interactions and engagement with the Division of Global Health Equity’s faculty and clinicians.
