Organization Description

Socios En Salud (SES) is the largest international NGO in Peru, committed to providing equitable healthcare to underserved communities. Emerging from the 1994 tuberculosis crisis, SES has been a global leader in treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), achieving some of the world’s highest cure rates. SES works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to strengthen health systems, operate innovative programs, and improve healthcare delivery. With national reach and a focus on vulnerable populations, SES combines clinical care, community health initiatives, and research to address pressing health inequities in Peru.

Internship Project Description

The CASITA Project focuses on improving early childhood development in Carabayllo and Ventanilla by engaging caregivers and promoting early stimulation strategies. Interns will play a critical role in developing strategies to involve father figures in child care and designing sustainability approaches for program activities, particularly related to climate change.

Key Activities:

  • Conduct interviews with caregivers and local project stakeholders to assess current engagement levels and identify barriers.
  • Collaborate with project professionals to develop strategies for sustainable early childhood interventions.
  • Research and propose climate change strategies to ensure long-term sustainability of early stimulation sessions.
  • Assist in the creation of educational materials for community dissemination.

Deliverables:

  • A report on father involvement strategies and proposed solutions.
  • Recommendations for sustainable, climate-friendly practices in project delivery.
  • Data collected through qualitative interviews with key stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes

Qualifications

  • Preferred Background: Students in global health, anthropology, social sciences, public health, or related fields.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with qualitative research methods.
    • Strong interest in community-based and early childhood health projects.
  • Other Considerations:
    • Intermediate-level Spanish required.
    • Adaptability to work in resource-limited environments.

Work Environment

Interns will work closely with SES project professionals in community-based settings in Carabayllo and Ventanilla. This role involves fieldwork, stakeholder interviews, and collaboration with caregivers and community members.
