Internship Details
Potential Projects:
- Gender Analysis of Palliative Care in Rwanda:
- A qualitative research study exploring gender dynamics in palliative care service provision in Rwanda.
- Interns will support data analysis, write-up, and learn how to apply a gender lens in health service delivery.
- Engagement Period: June to August 2025.
- Format: Online or in-person engagement.
- Females’ Engagement in Basic Medical Sciences Teaching and Research in Africa:
- Research project examining the participation of women in medical sciences teaching and research.
- Intern responsibilities include desk reviews, data collection, data cleaning, and analysis.
- Engagement Period: June to August 2025.
- Format: Hybrid (virtual and in-person).
- Examining the Legal Status/Ban on FGM and Law Enforcement in Selected African Countries:
- A research project focusing on legal frameworks and law enforcement around Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
- Interns will contribute to desk reviews and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct literature reviews, desk reviews, and data collection processes.
- Support data cleaning, analysis, and research write-ups.
- Collaborate on research dissemination activities, including reports and potential publications.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gender Analysis Skills: Learn to apply a gender lens in health service research and provision.
- Research Skills: Gain experience in qualitative and quantitative research processes, including data analysis and literature reviews.
- Understanding of Gender Equity: Deepen knowledge on gender-related health and education disparities in African contexts.
- Writing and Presentation Skills: Develop proficiency in research report writing and preparing materials for publication.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Skills:
- Strong interest in gender equity, research, and writing.
- Basic research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with qualitative analysis methods and tools.
- Experience conducting desk reviews or data analysis.
Work Environment:
- Format: Hybrid (a mix of virtual and in-person) or fully remote, depending on the intern’s preference and circumstances.
- Location: Kigali Office or remote work as applicable.
Additional Details:
- Interns interested in in-person engagement in Rwanda will undergo an onboarding process with UGHE’s HR office.
- For approved research protocols at UGHE’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), interns contributing to writing can be considered for co-authorship.
- Interns will work in a hybrid team environment, collaborating with researchers and gender equity experts.
