Funding Opportunity Now Open to Welcome Global Research Collaborators to Harvard Campus

The Harvard Global Health Institute is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 cohort of the Visiting Research Scholars Program, which provides funding for a 6-week in-residence experience at Harvard for an international collaborator to strengthen ongoing research collaborations and support the development of new partnerships in global health. Applications must be submitted by a Harvard faculty member who will serve as the sponsor for an international research collaborator. Through the award, visiting scholars will receive financial support for expenses related to their time on campus, including housing, travel to and from Cambridge, health insurance, J-1 visa fees, and daily living expenses through a lump-sum stipend.
“It has been eye-opening to meet with Harvard faculty, not only my collaborator, but also other affiliated faculty members my collaborator has connected me with who have helped us strengthen our research project and identify future grant opportunities,” said Dr. Wonderful Choga, HGHI Visiting Scholar ’24, who worked on wastewater surveillance for infectious diseases with Professor Yonatan Grad in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.
Past cohorts of HGHI Visiting Scholars have advanced collaborative research across a range of global health priorities, including infectious disease immunology, maternal and child health, mental health systems, and computational approaches to pathogen detection and analysis. These projects have drawn on cross-institutional expertise to integrate field-based research with laboratory and data-driven methods, advancing both scientific understanding and translational impact.
Eligible Harvard sponsors must be faculty members at any Harvard school or affiliated hospital. Visiting scholars should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field and demonstrate an established or emerging collaborative relationship with their Harvard sponsor.
Evidence of meaningful collaboration may include peer-reviewed publications, jointly developed educational curricula, policy partnerships, or shared service and research initiatives.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
